POLYRED 5.2 for Linux

Linux is an excellent operating system for POLYRED users because it is a fully featured multi-user multi-tasking OS that runs on a wide variety of hardware, and is compatible with a wide variety of networks. Linux can be installed on most desktop and laptop computers, and can be configured as a separate startup disk on a PC that normally runs Windows. For more information on possible Linux configurations, see our Linux Installation page.

Information about the Linux Operating System

A good place to find Linux information, HOW-TOs and FAQs is http://www.linux.org. This site also contains a list of vendors who supply computer systems which have the Linux operating system pre-installed (http://www.linux.org/vendors/systems.html).

If you choose not to buy a pre-configured system, you can purchase Linux installation CDs from a number of vendors. The linux.org site also contains a list of Linux retailers (http://www.linux.org/vendors/retailers.html).

We have installed POLYRED on the RedHat, SuSE, and Debian Linux distributions. Current versions of these distributions should work with POLYRED. You can order the Linux installation CDs directly from these companies also. Their websites are at http://www.redhat.com, http://www.suse.com,and http://www.debian.org repsectively.
